Lecture: Chemical Dynamics

Location: computer science and engineering
Time: 13:30-14:30 Monday, May 12nd, 2008
Professor: Dennis V Stynes

In fact, I attended two lectures on the second week in this month. Both of them have the same topic which is Chemical Dynamics, and there are both presented by the same professor, Dennis V Stynes. As I said before, Stynes was around 40 and 50 years old. During his lecture, he used projector as his main tool for teaching students; also. He used blackboard sometimes to show the specific things. Stynes talked about the chemical equilibrium. In his lecture, the chemical equilibrium connects to the K which is number of solubility. If we can calculate the K, then we can know which direction the reaction is. The whole lecture was about calculation, especially for the K. As I mentioned before, some students were hard-working students, and some were not; however, unlike last one, this lecture seems to be more interesting because students were really active this time. There were lots of interaction between the professor and the students this time because students asked al lot of questions and the professor answered them patiently. I thought this was all about the basic chemistry, and the students, who attended this lecture, might have different major from chemistry.

Actually, you can tell by the course number whether the course is for students who are majoring in that subject or not. If the second number is 0 or 1 (for example, 1000, or 1100, or 1010), it's a course for majors. That means it should be more difficult, and also that it can be used as a prerequisite for more advanced courses in the subject (like 2000, or 2010). If the second number is 4 or 5 (e.g. 1400 or 1500), then it is a course for non-majors, which means that you cannot move on to take the more advanced courses in that subject, because the course doesn't give you enough serious basic knowledge.

So, which one was this course?
